Importance of Time Management & Tips to Achieve it

Many a times when we see a very successful and accomplished person we think what specialty this person possess that he could accomplish so much in his life. In reality, successful people do not do different things, they do things differently. Everyone in this world has got same 24 hrs in a day; your success depends on how you utilize your time effectively. Time management is such an important aspect of our life that you just cannot avoid it, if at all you want to see yourself on the peak of success.

As Chanakya, the greatest politician of all times rightly pointed out- “You cannot purchase even one second wasted with all the wealth of this world.”

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed his or her annual exams.

To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask an editor of a weekly magazine.

To realize the value of ONE DAY, ask a daily wage laborer who has 6 kids to feed.

To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet the beloved.

Time Management doesn’t require very high skills or intelligence, it is just a common sense to do the right things at the right time provided you have willingness to achieve your goal.

Firstly, you need to set your goals right and need to have a very strong reason for keeping you motivated till you achieve it. It is said that “if you have nothing to die for, you have actually nothing to live for.”For example if you want to become an IAS , see within yourself what really motivates you to work tirelessly for achieving this goal, are you ready to sacrifice all sorts of comforts and immediate pleasures for this. If the reason is strong enough than automatically you will save even minutes to work for it. That’s how great successful people like Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Barack Obama etc. manage their time so effectively. Elon Musk is known to break his entire day into slots of 5 minutes each. That’s how he manages two companies apart from his family responsibilities so well.

Unless you identify why you want to manage your time, it will always be difficult for you to manage your time.

Once your goal is set and you are motivated enough to achieve it, the next step is to prioritize your activities since time is limited and activities are many. Don’t get overwhelmed in a pool of activities. Nobody can do everything at one go. Prioritization is important. One who knows how to prioritize his/her activities can save a lot of time and stress associated with it.

After prioritization you must create a schedule to complete the activities you have planned for and most importantly stick to your schedule. Unless you stick to it, all the planning will go for a toss. The most common reason for inability to meet schedules is distraction which leads to mental stress and anxiety that drains our energy. So to reduce that you need to organize yourself and eliminate distractions. Distractions such as excessive use of smart phones are real time killers. Identify your distractions and avoid it.

So friends if you really want to achieve your dream, start working from today itself. A dream without action is just a wish.

Write down all your activities you are intending to do today keeping in mind your long term goal and start prioritizing them. You may not achieve 100% result today itself but do not be disturbed, keep working on it. If you value time, time will value you and will give your desired result.
